Tell Me What You're Reading #12 Alexis Coe: Alice + Freda Forever + Alexis on history, research and the writing process
Our guest for The second episode of our season II, Alexis Coe, was introduced to me by my daughter Melanie.
Alexis is a historian, author, host, commenter, and consultant. She is the author of the narrative history book, Alice+Freda Forever: A Murder in Memphis, and is a consultant on the movie adaptation of the book. Alexis is also working on her second book, You Never Forget Your First: A Biography of George Washington, and is a consulting producer on The History Channel, where she is working on a George Washington series with Doris Kearns Goodwin..
Alexis is the in-house-historian at The Wing, where she delivers monthly lectures or panels on women's history and where she hosts The Wing’s No Man’s Land podcast.
One episode of her podcast, titled, Four Women, One Devastating Allegation, discusses four historical figures, Alice Mitchell and Freda Ward (who are Alice and Freda), and Barbara Gittings and Kay Lahusen, who were gay civil rights pioneers and partners for nearly forty-six years.
